Here are some of the most common questions we´ve been getting
Q. What is the A-Cam dll?
A. A-Cam dll is a digital motion picture camera that shots uncompressed RAW files in 12 bit, 1080p in the format CinemaDNG.
Q. What lensmounts are avalible?
A. The camera has a IMS mount from P+S Technik. You can then choose from different adapters like PL, C-mount or Leica-M mount. The adapters are interchngeble so you can use more then one mount on the camera.
Q. Will the camera work with zoom lenses?
A. Yes.
Q. How are the files stored?
A. We record to a 80 or a 160GB memory cartridge. Once the card is full, you can either swap it for another one, or off-load the card's data to a computer.
Q. What kind of viewfinder does the camera have?
A. The A-Cam dll have a color LCD with 640x480 pixels. We have a 1:1 pixel zoom in the viewfinder to be able to easier set the focus point.
Q. Is there any tool on the camera to control the exposure?
A. In the viewfinder there is a histogram.
Q. What kind of output to an external monitor will you support?
A. HDSDI out can be used with a HDSDI monitor. AJA and Black Magic Design have small, portable converters from HD-SDI to HDMI or DVI.
Q. What about Audio? Which format, separate channels?
A. The camera will record 48kHz in stereo, balanced line in via a Lemo to XLR break out cable.
Q, What is the estimated running time from the Sony battery?
A. Roughly 50 minutes.
Q. How do you transfer the files to a computer?
A. With the camera USB 2.0 port or the USB card reader. A ExpressCard reader for faster transfer is in development.
Q. How long will it take to download footage from the camera to a computer?
A. With the camera USB 2.0 port or the USB card reader, roughly 20MB/second. A 80 GB will take approx. 60-70 minutes to transfer to the computer. We recommend at least 2 memory cartridges to each camera.
Q. How do I playback recorded files?
A. You can playback in the camera via the HDSDI out in 1080p 10 bit 4:2:2 or on a computer with DaVinci Resolve/Resolve Lite 8.1 software, you can also render out files with Adobe After Effects or Premiere.
Q. Can I edit in FCP and Avid?
A. You can export the CinemaDNG files to ProRes, DPX etc. with Adobe After Effects or DaVinci Resolve/Resolve Lite 8.1.
Q. Is the camera up-gradable in the future?
A. The camera has an on-board USB so the user can update the camera firmware to take advantage of ongoing updates and software developments.
