Q: Can I use other lenses with my SP-16 than the one delivered with the camera?
A: Yes, You can use any Super 16mm lens with C-mount covering the Super 16 format but you need to have in mind that the standard viewfinder of the SP-16 is a parallel-mounted non-reflex viewfinder designed for the 9 mm Kinoptik lens.
Q: What does "parallel-mounted non-reflex viewfinder" mean?
A: A parallel-mounted non-reflex viewfinder is a viewfinder mounted parallel to the lens and therefore causes a minor parallax error.
Q: Why not a reflex-viewfinder?
A: Because it would make the camera more clumsy and expensive. With a wide lens like the 9 mm, the parallax-error is negligible. The great depth of field makes the focusing easy.
Q: Why a C-mount lens and not PL or Arri bayonet?
A: In order to make the smallest camera in the world, we needed the shortest flange focal distance (17,5 mm compared to 52 mm).
Q:How is it possible to sell a professional Super16 camera including optics for the price a DV camcorder?
A: By stripping the mechanical and electronic construction down to the absolute essential functions, using modern production and design tools and choosing convenient materials.
Q: What is Super 16-mm?
A: Super 16mm is a format that utilizes the maximum image area available on single perforated 16mm film. The Super 16 format has the aspect ratio of 1,66:1. This equals 15:9 and is very close to the 16:9 aspect ratio of HD. Super 16 also offers the option for blow-up to 35 mm for cinematic release. The Super 16 format was developed by Swedish cinematographer Rune Ericson. He was awarded with an Oscar for this innovation in 2001.
Q: Where and how do I develop and transfer my material?
A: You have to turn to the established labs and telecine facilities, available around the globe.
Q: Any plans for longer loads? External magazines, etc?
A: No, we stick to the 100 ft day light spools. They are easy to load, and make the camera light and small.
Q: Does A-Cam run in sync?
A: Yes.
Q: Does it run quiet or...?
A: It does not run completely silent.
Q: What is the capacity on internal battery?
A: A fully charged battery will last 20-25 rolls under normal conditions.
Q: Does the camera run directly off the battery charger?
A: Yes. It can also run from any 12V supply.
Q: Where are A-Cam manufactured?
A: Made in Sweden.
