I know what the purists will say. Only XLR is professional but there are a lot of people who have been successfully using audio equipment via 3.5 mm jacks. Microphones like the ones from Rode are fine for documentary work on the street and it would be great if they could also be attached to this camera. Does the camera have an appropriate shoe mount as well?

I think it is better to put two TA5-f ( 3 pin ) on the Camera body if there is space, these connectors are way smaller than XLR, and also these inputs must be switchable between Mic and Line level, this way the signal is balanced ( less noise ) and you can use a portable mixer if you need to use more than two Mics.
