Hey dudes!

I just put up a video showing how Ikonoskop is broken in Resolve. I want Ikonoskop and blackmagic to fix this problem so their camera is usable in post. It's also got some info on the Lightroom / Adobe worfklow.

Check it :

It is usable in post, I use AE and the camera RAW importer works fine, no magenta. I've seen the issues with highlights that are evident in DNG importer and Da Vinci back when barely anyone had the camera. It's a real shame about Da Vinci though, I can't imagine it's a big problem to fix, but there are other ways to grade without Da Vinci. Which only went free recently anyway.

I do agree there are other alternatives for color grading Like Lr and AE. None of them are not a dedicated platforms for color grading. The problem with AE is you can't do round trip when coming back with an EDL. The correct work flow that is an industry standard is the following.
Shoot RAW > One light color>Convert to popular formats for editing> Export EDL For final grading> Master Grading>ON AIR MASTER.
Unfortunately Ikonoskop's footage is not yet supported on MOST color grading platforms.
Resolve is not yet fully compatible, Speedgrade is not yet released and the Nokoda fuze is not yet compatible too. Bottom line I'm stack with resolve (which I trust) and magenta high lights.
Of course I can get magenta out of the way but I can't color correct the picture as the way I want because If I start playing around, magenta comes back again.
Thanks John

The AE workflow definitely "works," but it's incredibly slow and there's no timecode, which makes doing an online dicey. I was seeing a 17:1 ratio of source footage shot to render time. 1 hour of footage was 17 hours of render time.

Also, it's an incredibly manual process having to import each individual image sequence one-by-one. Yes, it "works," but it's an incredible hassle. The footage does look great this way, but wow it's horrible hard to get it into an NLE.

I love this camera. Please Ikonoskop, do what Red did and release a batch one-light program like Red Rushes or something. Red Rushes and RedCine were awful when they were first released, but they at least allowed you to make some .movs with timecode and you could get going with a production.

I'd hate to be the guy buying this camera and then realizing the post is a huge mess. At least just make a statement about this, Ikono. I know you guys are a small shop, but the radio silence is disheartening. What are your plans for addressing this? What if Resolve doesn't fix the problem. What about people without Resolve?

Hello,

The problem of the magenta in the highlights is related to the color matrix in the metadata of the file, we are working hard with the Resolve team to solve this. The problem is that the green channel is not fully saturated in clipped areas of the picture, we will see if we can find out how LightRoom and Camera Raw solves th problem.

Best regards,

Thanks Peter! Keep us updated. I love this camera and want it to look good coming out of Resolve. The purple highlights are the biggest problem in Resolve, but it really feels like the program is looking at the images all wrong in other ways (everything comes in default blown-out, there's magenta shadows if you use the curves, there's no color balance tool or camera calibration knobs).

Are you guys looking into making a tool of your own? All we're looking for is a simple one-light transcoder program. Something like RedCine or RedRushes back in the day.

Finally, here is a simple and quick way fixing clipped magenta high lights in resolve.

Yay! They added that cinema DNG switch in DaVinci 8.2.1 which came out in April. This is a huge deal!! Yahoo!
